PORTICO RESTORATION PROJECT
Our successful Portico Restoration Project restored the historic front façade of the 'Jewel of Beacon'.
The entry portico had suffered years of deterioration due to weather exposure and the effects of time.
The renovations included the installation of a new cement foundation under the massive stone landing, the restoration of wooden components; roof finials, sills, and vertical wainscoting, as well as the rebuilding of the balcony. We collaborated with architect Jeff Wilkinson from JWA in Newburgh and Thomas Clemmens from Clemco Construction & Restoration, Inc., both of whom specialize in preserving historic buildings.
The project was largely funded by your generous donations, a $50,000 grant from the City of Beacon, a $50,000 grant from NYSCA, and a $10,000 grant from the Preservation League of New York State. Our aim is to enhance local experiences and attract visitors by preserving the portico. We anticipate completing the restoration by fall. Contributions to the ongoing Portico Coin Drive demonstrate that "People Make it Happen"!
THE NORTHCUTT LEGACY FUND FOR THE HOWLAND CULTURAL CENTER
We understand the power of community and are vested in the preservation and mission of the Center. To have a lasting source of income to support the Center in perpetuity we have established the Northcutt Legacy Fund with the help of the Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley to honor Florence Northcutt's legacy and supports the Howland Cultural Center. Your contributions will help preserve the historic Richard Morris Hunt building and ensure the Northcutt Hall gallery continues to provide extraordinary experiences for all.
