A magical evening. Performers included Joziah Longo from the Grand Slambovians, songwriters Andy Revkin, Raquel Vidal and G.L. Brackett. Poet Chris Kingsley, and Beacon folk maestros Jacob and David Bernz. Jeff Wilkinson will bring his band, the Shutterdogs, Sara Milonovich, Greg Anderson and Dan Fisherman.
With stories hearkening to the writings of Washington Irving to poetic musings inspired by the tidal flows of this magnificent waterway. A wide variety of music and musical styles is planned from the Pete Seeger and the Sloop Singers song canon to songs inspired by the Warner Sisters of Constitution Island. Master Storyteller, Jonathan Kruk, will spin Hudson Valley yarns and emcee the show. Over thirty Years ago, Singer-songwriter Jeff Wilkinson produced a series of concerts called “The Hudson River in Song and Story”. The shows highlighted and drew from the rich musical and literary legacies of the Hudson River. Wilkinson, who also works professionally as an Architect, has recently been involved with the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, NY. This important Hudson Valley landmark celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2023. Designed by well-known Architect Richard Morris Hunt, the building served much of its early life as Beacon’s library. Since the late 1970’s the Howland Center has served as a Community Arts Center and hosts an amazing array of Arts and Music related programs. The Center is now on an active preservation path and is focusing on the Restoration of the main Northside Portico. In an effort to help promote the Howland Center’s fundraising efforts, Wilkinson introduced the idea of resurrecting the group show he produced over thirty years ago and the Howland Center Board is thrilled to host this event. |
